As a flexible pipe connection, coolant hose is widely used in automotive pressure accumulator and auxiliary heat exchanger. In order to ensure the coolant flow smoothly into the manifold and valve body, the strange tree shaped multi branch sub channel structure is adopted in the coolant hose. The coolant hose should not only meet the requirements of function, structure size and performance, but also be fully compatible with the engine room with extremely complex and compact layout.
Let alone the influence of design, the high temperature radiation and oil immersion of the engine can also make the outside of the coolant hose aging gradually. But in any case, the most common aging is from the inside out. Therefore, when there are tiny pinholes on the outside, it indicates that serious corrosion has occurred inside the hose. The wear channels are the result of electrochemical corrosion and the natural phenomenon of micro battery effect in cooling system. Oxygen in the air is one of the main factors leading to the chemical reaction, so improving the filling process of the cooling system can effectively avoid the occurrence of such accidents.
When there is a substantial leakage of coolant, the fault is clear at a glance. However, the key to the problem is how to diagnose the corrosion inside the hose without dismantling it. The following methods can help you quickly and accurately find the dying coolant hose: knead the hose by hand, especially the hose on the upper part of radiator, bypass, manifold, valve body and heater, and its connecting end is the most important. If there is obvious soft or inelastic handle at the kneading place (compared with other parts), it indicates that the hose at this place is seriously corroded. If the vehicle’s mileage is low at this time, it is recommended to check the voltage of its cooling system. During the inspection, the negative pole of the voltmeter is connected with the grounding electrode of the battery; Insert the positive pole into the coolant (do not touch any metal parts). If the voltage reading is above 0.3V, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive and systematic inspection on the grounding electrode of the whole vehicle. At the same time, make sure that no auxiliary grounding electrode is connected to the radiator bracket.
For the flexible pipe passage, even if there is only one branch leakage, it is wise to replace the entire coolant hose, otherwise you will get twice the result with half the effort.
Although most of the hoses can be flexibly installed without kinks, the molding process is adopted for almost all the hoses because the molding hose is more suitable for the needs of compact installation space.
OEM clamp of coolant hose usually adopts spring band structure. The elastic snap ring causes compression permanent deformation inside the hose, so as to realize a more tight connection with uniform continuous pressure. However, when the end of the hose connection is slotted or deformed, the sealing performance of the OEM elastic clasp is not as good as the high-quality maintenance clamp. Maintenance clamps mainly include shrink band which can continuously adjust the compression force and worm drive type which has permanent tension.
